SAP HANA Data Management is a Real Time data management system of the advanced world. Formerly Database Management Systems had various forms and interfaces, even SAP’s previous versions are also famous worldwide for its accuracy and proficiency in managing database. But in the latest update SAP has introduced an in-memory Database, which will store data in the primary memory in spite of hard disk. SAP HANA’s system of data storing in compressed form in the main memory allows faster performance with higher accuracy. It can access data in no time. SAP HANA had been introduced in 2013, and now it is widely accepted because of its performance.
The In-Memory Database System of SAP HANA lets you use the integrated process of data access. You do not need to depend on the previous databases to calculate or make an existing database; SAP HANA does it for you. It lets you use advanced analytics as well as fast transaction. By removing the bottlenecks like predefined aggregates, duplication of data, materialized view, it gives you the updated response within a fraction of seconds. Even all of your transactional and analytical data can be stored in a single database, which allows you to access your whole data in real time.
SAP HANA has a system called multi-tenant database. In this system, you can allow multiple tenants to access and operate their data within a single database. If there is higher workload of any tenant, I will never affect the details of any other. There are even various benefits of multiple tenant facility as it allows every tenant to access the data or edit, delete, standby their databases at the same time. It creates different customer ids for isolation of every , and the security of every tenant’s data within a single platform is also trustworthy.
The Multi-tier Storage system is a dynamic and advanced system of storing data. The data you use frequently is stored in the primary memory, and the data you use less is automatically moved in the hard disk. The benefit of this feature is that you can get what you need in a blink. It lets the frequently used data to be available faster also the less used data on the back. The application can even access every data independently wherever the storage is in no time. Another advance feature to this is you can manage the preferences of storing the data in multiple tiers by your choice.
The Metadata feature of this application informs you about the different definitions of various relational tables, relational rows or columns, etc. in the same database. Following this, it comes with another great feature to optimize your work. The persistence layer in the application does an excellent job for you. It remembers your actions and saves every data in its last state, the moment you leave the application it stores every data of every transaction in its current state and later represents to you as the task is successfully done or undone.
The SAP HANA Database Management System is prepared in C++, and it needs Linux operating system for operation. Also, SAP HANA Database has multiple servers for its operation as in Index server, Statistics Server, Name Server, Preprocessor Server and XS Engine.
The SAP HANA Index Server is the primary and most crucial server of the system. You may call it the heart of the full system. It has various notable works like,
‘Connection and Session Management’ – Index server creates and manages sessions and connection between the database clients. By using SQL statements, every client can communicate with the SAP HANA Database whenever they establish a session.
‘Managing Authorization’ – Index Server is the manager of giving permission or authorization to a client for privileges. Basically, it grants the power or crosses checks whether the user has the right to perform any special operations in the database, like create, edit, delete or execute, etc.
Processing Requests and Execution Component’ – The request of the client for execution is analyzed by the set of components of index server. The request first analyzed by the request parser and then sent to the component ‘Execution Control’ for execution. Then the component acts as the main and performs an action by invoking various engines to give a result.
The ‘Statistic Server’ collects and shows the data of other server’s status, performance, etc. it also provides information on past operations and results for future analysis.
The ‘Name Server’ has all the information about the topology of HANA Database. The name server also has the information of components locations and the locations of data within different servers.
The ‘Preprocessor Server’ in SAP HANA works along with Index server for text data analyzing. The Index Server takes help from the Preprocessor server whenever text search capabilities from a client are used.
The XS ‘Engine’ is a secondary component to be used. It helps the user to connect to SAP HANA System by using Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (http).
The SQL Script and Processor – The SQL Processor receives the SQL requests, and it executes the manipulation statements. The SAP HANA Database has SQL Script as its scripting language. The system uses the scripting language for optimization and parallelization.
The Multidimensional Expression (MDX) – This is the language, which queries and manipulates the multidimensional data in OLAP Cubes. The MDX processor receives all the MDX requests from the clients.
The Calc Engine – A common infrastructure to the SAP HANA Database features is Calc Engine. Features like SQL Script. MDX, Planning Model, and Domain Specific model planning operations are converted into a calculation model. It creates logical models by its own script to execute the operation. For example, the Calc model breaks SQL script into operations.
All the other requests received from the client is sent to different servers and then to different engines for execution, like Metadata manager receives the requests for data definition statements, Transaction Manager receives the requests of transaction control statements, Planning Engine receives the commands of planning, Procedure Calls requests are given to the Procedure Processor.
