How OPT helps you to work while studying in US?
OPT (Optional Practical Training) is known as the permit to non-immigrants for working in the US while studying. This permit was authorized by USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) to students who are pursuing any UG or PG courses for more than 9 months. Students on student's Visa and this permit can work for at most one year in any company across the United States.
Requirements to study and work in the US
F1 Visa - F1 Visa is the visa offered by United States Government for students who wants to pursue a course in the US. You need to apply for F1 Visa from the immigration office.
Optional Practical Training (OPT) - Once you availed your F1 visa, you're eligible to study in the US and you're also eligible for working under the OPT permit. Basically, the reason behind the permit is to support the student with practical working knowledge while completing their educational course. A student can avail the OPT employment opportunity only after the authorization by BCIS and can be endorsed only by the OISS (Office of International Students and Scholars) department of his/her institution. The BCIS authorization process might take up to 90 days after applying.
