How immigrant students in the US can land in a job after graduation?

  • Link Copied

Pursuing an education the United States is way too easy when compared to the hurdles involved in landing a job there. However, with a proper guidance and strategies, one can successfully land a job.

Know the challenges involved!

It is always wiser to be aware of the complications involved in landing a job. Some of the important concerns are legal expenditure, cultural differences, and language differences. The uncertainty and immigration department’s restrictions on the employers also play a vital role in distancing the employment opportunities to the immigrant students in the United States.

What do I need to work in the United States permanently?

In order to work permanently in the United States, you’ll need to acquire H-1B visa permit from the USCIS (The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services). However, it is not easier to acquire the H-1B visa permit.

Student Work Visa (F-1 Visa)

In contrast to H-1B visa, applying for an F-1 visa is very simple and often the respective university where the student had enrolled would guide them in achieving it. This is a temporary work visa which permits the students to work during the graduation period.

Getting OPT Visa and CPT Visa

OPT (Optional Practical Training) and CPT (Curricular Practical Training) are also offered to only immigrant students but it differs from F-1 visa by facilitating the immigrant students after the completion of the graduation course. By enrolling for this OPT and CPT visa permit, the students can work for nearly 12 months from the date of graduation course completion.

After acquiring F-1 visa and availing Optional Practical Training (OPT) and Curricular Practical Training (CPT) options to work, the student can further be facilitated the process of later securing an H-1B visa. This also paves the way for permanent residency and later citizenship.
