Java is a set of computer programs that enables developers to create application programs that can deployed in cross-platform environments. It was developed by Sun Microsystems which was later taken over by Oracle Corporation. Java is used extensively in a wide cross-section of programs and devices including embedded devices, mobile phones, supercomputers and even enterprise level servers.

As per Oracle, at least 800 million desktop systems around the world are running on Java. Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is a critical software component of popular operating systems like Microsoft, Linux, iOs, etc.
