Before we extract an idea on Big Data, it is very essential to understand the types of data. Typically, any data will fall under three types. They are structured, semi-structured and unstructured data. Structured and semi-structured data can be easily organized and stored in any databases. Interestingly, unstructured data which cannot be organized in any databases can be organized effectively under Big Data.
Structured Data
Examples: Relational Database Systems
Semi Structured Data
Examples: XML data.
Unstructured Data
Examples: Text, Word, PDF, Media Logs etc.
In real world, Big Data can be categorized under the following types of data based on the field where it is generated.
Black Box Data
The Black box is a device with application to capture the data. Typically, the Black Box Data contains voice recordings recorded during the flight and the aircraft's status and performance information.
Social Media Data
Vastly connected by people around the world, today's internet has several social media platform. Every social media platform generates huge volumes of data which include the number of users, likes, views, comments and many others. These data are called as Social Media Data
Stock Exchange Data
The information contained in these types of data is mostly related to the share market. The number of shares sold and bought by the customers, factors influencing their decisions and many other information of stock market will come under this category.
Power Grid Data
This data is related to power grid line and it contains information on the amount of power consumption recorded for any particular power station.
Transport Data
Transport data is data related to commutation routes, vehicles, distance covered and capacity of the vehicle etc.
Search Engine Data
Ranging from user analytics to the technical web data, various data related to search engine are categorized under this group.
