Why ASP.NET Core 1.0 Has Replaced ASP.NET 5

World of information technology is extremely volatile and the technologies continue to evolve and change consistently. One of the web technologies “.NET” (dot net) introduced by Microsoft has also changed of late. The new technology; ASP.NET core now replaces the earlier ASP.NET 5 and the entity framework have also been renamed accordingly. This introduction has opened a variety of prospects for people interested in .NET courses.  

The Next Generation Web Application

ASP.NET Core 1.0 is the new next generation web application introduced by the tech giant Microsoft. It was earlier named as ASP.NET 5. In addition to the web app, the company has also changed the name of the entity framework. It is now Entity Framework Core 1.0 instead of the earlier nomenclature of Entity Framework .7.  This new application is not just renamed one but it is a completely new and innovative creation from the scratch. ASP.NET Core training is expected to open new horizons.   

A New Concept Altogether

In .NET technology newer versions rapidly followed one another. For instance; the ASP.NET 5 replaced the earlier version of NET 4.6 and it seemed initially bigger and better. However with consistent uses some drawbacks surfaced that went against the popularity of the application. Hence the designers in Microsoft started with a completely new concept and it resulted in the designing of the ASP.NET Core 1.0. The new app is innovative and efficient and addresses a number of issues earlier experienced by the users. Yet it is a completely new app and there might be some issues to be addressed that might surface in later stages when the app is extensively used.

Cross Platform Application

One of the problems that Microsoft designed and developed applications often experienced is that they did not have cross platform capabilities. The entire concept of the latest .NET application is that it is built around cross-platform functionalities. The objective is also making the ASP.NET Core 1.0 and its subsequent versions open source like some other popular web applications and introduction of ability to use native code compilation with modular design. This can improve the performance considerably. This means there is still scope for improvement of the application and importing certain features.

ASP.NET Core 1.0 and ASP.NET 4.6

ASP.NET 4.6 is the latest among the older versions of the application and Microsoft has clarified that they would continue their support for it. The problem with ASP.NET 4.6 is that it runs only on the Microsoft .NET framework. However the ASP.NET Core can function with both versions of the framework. Yet it also has its drawbacks as it functions only with C# and not with either F# or Visual Basic. The designers are trying to make the app compatible to these two as well for giving the web application cross-platform functionalities. Another issue the designers have to address is ensuring that the projects done with v4.5 and 4.6 can be moved seamlessly to ASP.NET Core which is not yet possible.

Frequent Change Prospects with ASP.NET Core

Since the ASP.NET Core is new technology there is every possibility that it would change frequently in course of time. A question is whether ASP.NET Core can be truly classified as Active Server Pages technology since its similarities with some other web apps. For instance; the Core has similarities with Node’s HTTP layer or Rack and the ASP.NET Core MVC has striking similarities with Sinatra. Transition to modern cross-platform web technologies exceptionally optimized for both micro services as well as for cloud development is certainly desirable but the accomplishment of the transition may not be the easiest of the tasks to perform.

Change of Design Patterns to Address Issues

Changing design patterns to address operational issues is nothing new in the domain of information technology and that is what has happened with .NET based applications devised by Microsoft. The design changes are looked upon as common solution for recurring problems and changes could be creational, structural, or behavioral in nature.

Yet it goes to the credit of the designers that they have tried to give the design of ASP.NET a new look and trying to give it cross-platform functionality.
