Top Websites to Learn Java
Java is among the widely used programming languages in the IT industry. For those, who want to be a programmer or a developer, Java is the right language to start with. It is a general-purpose, object-oriented language which was introduced in 1995 by Sun Microsystems. Its syntax and concepts are mostly derived from the combination of both C and C++ programming language.
Java programs or codes are saved with the .java extension. During the compilation process, the Java code is further compiled into a bytecode format which is later saved with a .class extension. The .class file can run on any platform or system which has a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) installed in it. Therefore, Java gives an illusion of being platform independent. This bytecode file is then interpreted using the interpreter in the JVM in order to execute the code.
To run a Java program, it is important that the system must have Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed. It contains the JVM and some additional files that are needed to run a java program. The JRE and other development tools such as JVM, interpreters, compilers, and libraries are contained in the Java Development Kit (JDK).
Some of the important features of Java are listed as follows:
- Object-oriented: All the work is done using real time objects which have some attributes and store some data.
- Platform Independent: Applications developed using platform-dependent languages cannot run in any other operating system except the one in which it is created. However, Java is a platform independent language, and can run in any platform which has the necessary runtime environment installed.
- Robust: The Java language is strongly-typed, which allows you to find any error or mistake in the code quickly.
- Multi-Threaded- Execution of light-weight processes is allowed in Java. This enables you to execute multiple tasks simultaneously in a Java application.
- Distributed: Java language allows users to create a distributed application. EJB (Enterprise JavaBeans) and RMI (Remote Method Invocation) are used to create these distributed applications.
