How to get epic software training and certification

The Epic software systems is a major player
Epic certification is useful for healthcare professionals who implement and work on electronic health care records used in hospitals and healthcare organizations. The certification is tough to achieve but worth all the hard work. Epic consultants who implement the software in hospitals have high demand.
To get trained and certified as an Epic consultant, you have to work at Epic or get sponsored by a healthcare employer. You must then complete the onsite training at Epic headquarters at Verona.
The Epic certification will demonstrate your skills and abilities in one or more software modules.
- ASAP: emergency room
- Beacon: medical oncology
- Cadence: scheduling and tracking patient appointments
- Cupid: cardiology
- EpiCare Ambulatory/Inpatient: clinical documentation, order entry, e-prescribing
- Kaleidoscope: ophthalmology
- OpTime/Anesthesia: scheduling and documentation for surgical procedures
- Prelude/ADT: patient registration system
- Radiant: radiology
- Stork: obstetrics
- Willow: pharmacy
Despite all the positive points of Epic certification, the path to get certified is limited. Even if you have a lot of money Epic does not let anyone and everyone to get access to the training materials and course. There are two ways to get access to the Epic Software course and learning materials.
You should be working with a hospital or clinic group who has signed a contract with the EPIC to implement their system. They will sponsor to pay for your Epic certification, get you access to the Epic portal, which has all the details to learn and support the Epic software.
Alternatively, you can work for a consulting group which provides technical support and operational services to the Epic clients. This consultant will sponsor your certification the way the hospital in the previous case does.
Please don’t trust anyone who says they can get you an Epic certification through a backdoor. It’s an outright scam. Even certified analysts cannot share any material with you. Don’t even think of these channels. I am sharing three strategies in which you can get your certification from Epic.
- If you are already working in a hospital or the hospital is going to implement Epic, then you are already halfway through to your goal.
- The second strategy is to work as an Epic Credentialed Trainer. This option is known as Epic proficiency. There are brighter chances to get certified with this strategy.
You must understand the difference between Epic certification and Epic Proficiency. In Epic certification, your sponsor pays for your certification. In Epic Proficiency, you get permission from your employer to study of your own and foot your own bills.
- The next strategy in the discussion is the go-live support jobs. Whenever a huge project comes to near-to completion, there will be a need for some additional staff to get deputed at the client site. If you have basic clinical studies knowledge and some technical knowledge to compliment, then you may work in application deployment work with the help of activation support organizations. After you work for some implementations, your chances of getting sponsored get brighter with the activation company or with the hospital itself.
- The next strategy that I would suggest is to look for entry-level jobs (IT related) in hospitals. These jobs will help you to enter a hospital which implements or will implement Epic software. It’s a good start and entry point. Work for some time and then hit the bullseye.
Hope all these suggestions will help to achieve your goals.
