DevOps Skills Which Would Make You A Recruiters’ Favorite Target
There used to be a time, when people did not need any kind of specialization to qualify for a job. Everyone was capable of learning and unlearning what they had learnt. Then came the age of specialization and knowledge processing and organizations began to look for candidates with specialized skill sets. Currently we live in a world, where you need to be the jack of all trades and also the master of the same. All the skill sets required by organizations are always not academic, there are many nonacademic soft skill set, which have come to play a huge role in the domain of Information Technology.
It is a system that aims to maintain sync and harmony with different departments in a company to ensure that they all are working in the same direction. Its basic aim is to tear down the barriers that often exist between the operation and the development centers. It is quite ironical that given the type of work, a company wishes to accomplish through a DevOps engineer requires soft skills, more than technical knowledge.

Let us have a clear understanding of what it takes to actually make the cut.
An Efficient Communicator
Communication is the base of any good business collaboration. It becomes all the more important when we are aiming to manage two different sections of an organization where nothing is common. A good DevOps professional should be able to communicate what he knows or what he has learnt.Besides this,he should have the quality of stepping in the shoes of his colleagues and think from their point of view. Empathy is the foundation of any good communication and in this field it takes the top most important position.
A Good Understanding of Software Engineering
Every company today works with an array of different architecture framework and most of them involve deployment and delivery models. So, it is not sufficient for a DevOps engineer to know just the programming language. He needs to be well versed in programming algorithms and robust systems design. Organizations are gradually progressing towards cloud deployment administration, which means that a DevOps engineer needs to maintain, monitor or troubleshoot production. He needs to familiarize himself with cloud services as well as low level software architecture.
A Person with a Non-Traditional Mind-Set
This may sound a little vague, but in reality it is a fact that a DevOps engineer should be open to change and should not have a closed mind-set. He should be open and receptive towards change in business knowledge as well as towards business administration.Infact it is always a good idea to hire someone who have changed his career path and have shifted from operation to IT or vice versa. A candidate who has a good idea and understanding about both the ends of the spectrum is expected to perform better than a candidate who has only seen one particular end.
Look For Someone with Experience in the Start-Up Companies
As a recruiter you might be tempted to hire someone who has a good educational background or very good experience in a big company. However, the requirements of a DevOps engineer are exactly the opposite. An ideal candidate would be someone who has worked for start-up companies and have deployed code into production at a very rapid rate. This is something which is required by companies who are planning to overhaul the entire system architecture by DevOps.
As per Google data, there are about 4.5 million jobs under the DevOpsengineer category. The number is quite promising and is expected to go up further with time. However, making a cut in this field is not easy as it is a position, which pays very well and demands a huge amount of your time and attention. If you wish to make the cut remember the golden rule, which says that DevOps is less aboutfollowing a set pattern and more about listening to others ideas which can move thecompany forward.
