A Synopsis of the Best Node JS Frameworks For Web and Apps Development
Node JS is a cross-platform, open-source runtime environment, which is used for the development of server-side web applications. It is not a JavaScript framework but many of its modules are written in the JavaScript and the developers can write the new modules in the JavaScript.
With the help of the Google’s V8 JavaScript engine, JavaScript is interpreted by the runtime environment. The growing popularity of Node JS can be contributed to the fact that it permits to build large scale, scalable and real time web and mobile applications with JavaScript alone. The flexible and less opinionated frameworks are Koa, Hapi and Express, which allows everything to be done and are suited for grounds development. The less flexible frameworks are Meteor, Mojito and derby, which do not allow developers to make wrong design decisions.
Organizations now prefer the Node JS framework and this has boosted the demand of the Node JS developers. Some best and powerful Node JS frameworks are:
1. Node.js Express
Node.js Express or Express is a flexible framework, which is built on node.js by offering high level wrappers around the Node.js APIs. It provides all the features needed to develop sturdy mobile and web applications and for creating APIs as well. This framework offers flexibility in defining models and using the database of any third party, using the authentication scheme of any user, using any of the template engines that conform to the signatures, like locals, path and callback. It also enables in defining the project directory structure the way it is required.
2. Sail.js
Sail is the robust Node js framework that is available with all the features needed for creating anything from the enterprise level web application to the small scale chat client. It is supported by the underlying express framework for dealing with the sockets, http requests etc. It is a frontend framework and offers the flexibility to choose the technology for creating the frontend. It is also available with database agnostic ORM and waterline, to permit the working of with database, behind the scenes. This framework is useful for single page web applications, dashboards, multiplayer board games and the other applications where updates for real time data are critical.
3. KOA
Koa has taken a different approach than Express and is giving a stiff competition to the established Express framework. The Koa framework comprises of the ES6 generators, powered by the co module. It utilizes the generators for improved error handling with catch, flow control for middleware and removes all the complexities of callback. It packs very small amount of ready to use functionality, is available in very small footprint and enables in writing future proof and scalable applications, the way required. Many experienced Node.js or JavaScript developers opt for the KOA framework over the Express as it allows more flexibility to write state-of-the-art codes, the way desired.
4. Meteor
Meteor is a powerful framework that offers host of custom packages, well written documents and tutorial and everything in this framework works seamlessly from the access to database to business logic of server side to the client side rendering. It only employs one API that is used on the server side as well as on the client side. The DDP protocol of this framework enables in connecting anything to the backend from simple database to IOT sensors to organization data warehouse. Though it has its own stack, it is flexible enough to permit the use of other technology in this framework. This framework is supported by a professionally developed team and funding from the top venture capitalists.
5. Derby.js
The Derby.js framework competes with frameworks like Mojito, Meteor etc. and is available with a data synchronization engine, called the Racer which makes data synching among the server, database and browser cakewalk. Racer makes the Derby framework based applications very fast on the server, as well as in the browser, a perfect option for the single page applications. This framework is ideal for creating fast applications and is more extendible and flexible due to its modular approach.
