Amazon Simple Storage Service, which is also called as Amazon S3 consists of various features including distributed and replicated object stores, AWS Import/Export and AWS Storage Gateway services.
Amazon S3 is 99.999999999% durable and processes ~1 trillion objects and > 700,000 requests/second. It stores XML documents, pictures, encrypted blobs and more. The replication across AZs is performed upon the determination of AWS region.

Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) has virtual machines running Linux or Windows. Depending upon the usage, either Linux root privileges or full Windows administration is deployed. It is empowered by 10 GB full bisection bandwidth High-Performance Computing (HPC).
Amazon EC2 has three types of storage such as Elastic Block Storage, Ephemeral Storage and Solid State Drives (SSDs).
